Genmaicha & Simple Morning Stretches

G’day friends.  :)

Unfortunately, I am still feeling pretty crappy this morning.

Besides taking the antibiotics the doc prescribed me,

I decided to start my day with some tea and stretching.

First, I found this video:

and followed along.

It helped get my blood and energy flowing.

Then I made some Genmaicha.

Genmaicha is the Japanese name for green tea combined with roasted brown rice.

It’s also the only tea I actually really like, and will drink.

As per the hopefully-accurate Wikipeda:

It is sometimes referred to colloquially as “popcorn tea” because a few grains of the rice pop during the roasting process and resemble popcorn. This type of tea was originally drunk by poor Japanese, as the rice served as a filler and reduced the price of the tea; which is why it is also known as the “people’s tea.”

You’re welcome for the history lesson.

Ingredients:

  • roasted brown rice (just put brown rice into a saucepan, and roast over medium heat until browned – I roast a bunch at a time and just keep it in a ziploc container)
  • green tea (I use two bags for the size of my teapot)
  • boiling water (duh)
While the water is boiling, line the bottom of the teapot with a thin layer of rice.

Then add tea bags, water and steep for a few minutes

Difficult, I know.

You’ll get it with some practice.

Oh, that’s just my dog.

Keepin it gangstaaaaaaaaaaa

Couch to 5K – Week 3 + Site Update

Goooooood afternoon friends.  :)

Did not make it to the track yesterday because of work, body problems, and extreme exhaustion.

So today shall be the first day of Couch to 5K Week 3.

  • Warm-up walk
  • Run 90 seconds
  • Walk 90 seconds
  • Run 3 minutes
  • Walk 3 minutes
  • Repeat twice

I’m excited and inspired today after watching this video for the 15th time of Ben Davis.

It makes me cry, every time.

Also makes me think of this number from SYTYCD (So You Think You Can Dance). You will have to click on the link to watch, as I could not find one that would allow me to embed.

Ok, now I feel like I need to lighten the mood.

Why I Don’t Post My Daily Eats

As someone who is trying to get fit, you would think that I would be posting what I eat everyday.

I mean, I post my workouts.  Why am I not posting my food?

Plain and simple,

I am plain and simple.

I am a creature of habit.

It would get mighty boring for you to keep reading the same things over and over.

So for those who are interested, here is a list of the things I normally eat in a day:

Breakfast

  • yogurt and granola, or
  • a protein bar (normally a Luna Bar)

Lunch

  • A salad** (homemade), or
  • Turkey, lettuce, tomato and cheese wrap (homemade), or
  • A subway sandwhich (if I did not go shopping)

Snacks (any of these; sometimes one in the morning, always one in the afternoon)

  • berries (straw, blue, rasp)
  • watermelon
  • cantaloupe
  • pirate’s booty
  • black bean chips
  • pretzels
  • baby carrots

Dinner (This changes pretty frequently.  If it is ever anything exciting, I will post it for you; don’t you worry!)

**I get made fun of a lot, because people say my salads don’t count as “salads”.  I don’t really enjoy this stuff:

So my salads are really just big bowls of veggies.

I think that counts, don’t you?

Welp!  Back to work.

Running later.

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
